If your competition has multiple events, you can decide how the overall leaderboard should be calculated.

Point per Place gives 1 point to first place in an event, 2 points to second place, etc. So if an athlete got 1st, 2nd, and 1st over three events, they would get a total of 1 + 2 + 1 = 4 points. The overall leaderboard is ranked based on having the lowest total points across all events.
Point Based uses a points table for each event. The overall leaderboard is ranked based on having the highest total points across all events.
If you have a large number of entrants, then we don't recommend point based; you are more likely to have ties, as no points are given for anyone after 65th place.
